For instance, a 4-inch thick piece of foam that requires 33 lbs to pack it down 1 inch and return to its full 4-inch thickness has a 33 lb compression rating or ILD. All foam sheets are sold per sheet, not per yard. It's important to avoid using a box cutter to open the foam; instead, use a ballpoint pen or pencil to make a small incision and break it from there.
